    John Skinner

Sacramento band leader John Skinner died on August 18.
The musician and pilot contributes a legacy of excellence in both careers. Raised in Orland CA, John's trumpet studies were fostered by mom, Alberta (Pat) Skinner. The virtuoso excelled at USU, Logan and, after graduation, volunteered for Vietnam service in the USAF. After the war, the pilot began a long career flying for Flying Tigers (later, Federal Express). Simultaneously, he established the John Skinner Band. Skinner ensembles played fine music for thousands of California celebrations over several decades. The leader was also active in community. His efforts have supported Cazadero Music Camp (Sonoma County) for many years. His is survived by his wife Susan and daughter Kathryn Skinner.
The music never ends. Skinner's musicians will offer a celebration of his life on September 17, at the La Sierra Community Center, 5325 Engel Rd, Carmichael. Anyone may attend. Downbeat is 2 pm. In lieu of flowers, the family request donations to the Cazadero Music Camp: PO Box 7908 Berkeley, CA 94707.
